Joseph Collins - “Ruins of a Lost Race (Theme of AndroSynth)”
An original piece, inspired by Star Control II
—————

Imagine landing on a random planet in AndroSynth space and finding nothing but smoldering ruins.
Curious, you decide to send out a landing party to explore.

All of a sudden, your scout craft is bombarded by acidic bubbles from out of nowhere!
They try to retreat back to your ship only to be smashed into pieces by a comet, blazing in shades of purple and blue!

Suddenly, a hail comes into communications.  You answer…
No visual, but you hear a voice.

"You?!  HERE?!!  Impossible!!  You lost the war, our Masters sealed you away inside their Slave Shield!  We thought you were one of THEM, but now we see… you are far, FAR worse than THEY could ever be…"

You introduce yourself and ask who you’re talking to.  Suddenly, something comes on to the display.
You see… humans.  No, not humans…  You see that which humans had spawned and forgotten about…

And realize that they survived…

The AndroSynth…

Cover of the Spathi theme from Star Control 2, because why the hell not?

Wow this thing is like three years old now, when did that happen

THERE IS A STAR CONTROL 2 NOVEL!
Groombridge Log is freely available to read, and the author may be producing a few physical copies, depending on how many people want them.
Original post with the PDF here
Photos of the printed book here
If you like Star Control, then I highly recommend reading this. It is over 400 pages long and covers the first part of the game. There is also a strong chance that the author will continue the story into a second or even third book.

Attention interloper.
You are trespassing within Ur-Quan space.
This world, Earth, may not be approached for any reason.
Nor will hostilities against our orbital platform be tolerated.
In addition, your ship does not respond to standard Hierarchy identification transmissions and is therefore deemed to be independent.
This is not permissible — only subservience shall be tolerated.
You are commanded to remain here and await the arrival of the Ur-Quan.
Disobedience will be punished.
